Punctal occlusion, also referred to as closure of the lacrimal punctum, aims to reduce tear outflow from the eye’s surface by blocking the nasolacrimal drainage system using a lacrimal duct implant/punctal plug.
The punctal plug is inserted into the lower punctum for various eye conditions and diseases, including:
- Dry eye syndrome
- Keratitis
- Sjogren’s syndrome
- Recurrent erosion of the cornea
